Sami Yusuf’s captivating performance, Beyond the Stars, features eight new compositions alongside dynamic reimaginings of earlier releases. Inspired by a Quranic injunction that nations and tribes are created to know one another, this monumental event weaves together diverse musical traditions in a profound and meaningful exchange. From Gregorian chant to Andalusian mawwals, from Middle Eastern melodic modes and rhythms to the uplifting euphoria of qawwali and the evocative sound of the Chinese erhu, each tradition conveys its unique stories through a rich musical language. The lyrics are drawn from the works of revered luminaries and mystical poets, including Hildegard of Bingen, Abu al-Hasan al-Shushtari, Mansur al-Hallaj, Yunus Emre, Rumi, Imadeddin Nasimi, Amir Khusro, and Bulleh Shah. The entire concert is brought to life by master musicians performing on traditional instruments such as the rabab, tar, santur, qanun, ney, erhu, tanbur, kemanche, balaban, oud, sitar, tabla, dholak, and daf. Sami Yusuf presented Beyond the Stars over two nights at Al Wasl Plaza during the Dubai EXPO.
